Winter pot holes ‘could see surge in injury compensation claims’

Councils across the country could face an increased number of injury compensation claims after the recent severe weather and frost put more holes in the roads, it has been claimed.

Cycling website road.cc has urged people on two wheels to be especially careful when getting back into the saddle after Christmas, after the thawing of the snow has revealed gaps in numerous roads around the country.

In April this year, the website reported on the case of Ian Davis, a 49-year-old cyclist who won GBP 7,600 in injury compensation after he took legal action against West Berkshire County Council over a pothole that caused him broken ribs and shoulder, hip and knee injuries.

Additionally, road campaigner Steve Percy from the People’s Parking Protest has said that councils need to get to work repairing roads immediately to prevent more damage being done, both to the roads and to road users.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19536223-ADNFCR
