Tread carefully to avoid work injury

Workers in the tyre industry are being invited to cut the risk of work injury by attending a special workshop in Newcastle.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is trying to raise awareness of the potential dangers in the industry, which include musculoskeletal disorders resulting from poor manual handling practice.

Terry Aston, chair of the Rubber Industry Advisory Committee, encouraged employees to attend the workshop.

"Moving and fitting tyres involves a lot of manual handling. Back and other muscular injuries are common. The cost to employers is considerable, as is the pain and hardship that can be endured by workers," he commented.

The workshop costs £10 to attend and will be held on Tuesday June 9th at the Novotel, Newcastle Airport.

It follows HSE’s bid to cut workplace accidents in the north-east’s forestry industry by hosting a free health and safety awareness day earlier this month.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19189044-ADNFCR
