Toxic sofa victims await payment

Victims who received skin burns from toxic sofas are to find out how much they will be paid in compensation.

A two-day hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice in London has opened to determine how much around 5,000 customers from across the country are to recieve, in the largest consumer injury action lawsuit in UK history.

Victims developed severe burns and skin problems after sitting on leather settees and armchairs imported from China and sold by retailers including Argos, Walmsley Furnishing and Land of Leather.

Electrical engineer Christopher Moore told the Birmingham Mail: “My whole back was covered in a rash and I lost four layers of skin. I was really worried and my initial thoughts were that it was some kind of skin cancer.”

According to law firm Russell Jones and Walker, victims could receive an average payment of GBP 2,500, with those worst-affected looking at double that.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19373244-ADNFCR
