Soldier wins compensation for car crash

A soldier from Sheffield has won a multi-million pound injury compensation settlement after a horrific car crash.

David Gratton, a sergeant in the Coldstream Guards, was clinically dead for 40 minutes after an army Land Rover he was travelling in smashed into a milk lorry.

It took emergence teams 20 minutes to find the damaged Land Rover and a further 20 minutes to cut him out.

The injury compensation payout will help to provide Mr Gratton with the lifelong care he will need after sustaining permanent damage to his nervous system.

His father Alan commented: "I am just grateful it is all over, to be honest.

"It has taken a long time but it is enough to pay for all his needs for the rest of his life."

The case follows reports that a Guards officer has won the right to injury compensation from the Ministry of Defence after was left disabled following a 65-foot jump from a bridge.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19269310-ADNFCR
