Road accident compensation ‘could be given quicker’

People seeking road accident compensation could have their claims dealt with quicker under new arrangements.

Announced today by the Ministry of Justice, the new scheme follows a campaign by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to create a simpler, quicker and more cost-effective compensation system.

Under the new process, which covers personal injury claims valued at between GBP 1,000 and GBP 10,000, unnecessary legal costs will be reduced and standardised electronic forms used to speed up the decision-making process.

"It is now vital that employees injured at work have the same opportunity as those injured on our roads to benefit from this new process, so we call on the government to extend it to cover employers’ liability insurance claims," ABI director of general insurance and health Nick Starling said.

The ABI is the voice of the insurance industry, with its members constituting more than 90 per cent of the market in the UK.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19375479-ADNFCR
