A 20-year-old woman in the south-east has been awarded a multimillion-pound injury compensation settlement over damage she suffered as a child.
The unnamed victim sustained brain damage, partial blindness, limited mobility and psychological problems after she was shaken as a baby, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Following the incident, she was removed from the care of her natural mother and looked after by a pair of adoptive parents, one of whom recently passed away.
The award, for GBP 6.5 million, was made by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority sitting in Manchester and includes GBP 257,000 for the injuries themselves and GBP 4 million towards caring for the woman.
It is thought to be a record payout for an incident of this nature.
The news follows reports in the Hounslow Guardian that a pensioner is seeking GBP 300,000 in injury compensation after being hit by a car outside Charing Cross Hospital.
