Pleasure Beach crash may prompt injury compensation claims

The owners of Blackpool Pleasure Beach may be hit with massive injury compensation claims after a crash on one of its rides left 21 people injured.

Some 32 people were riding the Big Dipper when their train stalled, before the train behind it smashed into them at a speed of 30 mph.

The Pleasure Beach was evacuated as 21 passengers had to be rescued from the ride, two of them requiring firefighters to cut them free.

All of the passengers were taken to hospital, while three were described as suffering serious injuries to their face, back and neck.

South Shore fire station manager Mark Alderson commented: "When crews got there, both cars remained on the tracks but were stationary, approximately 20ft high.

"There was no-one in the second car and 11 people had been safely evacuated by site staff before we arrived."

The Pleasure Beach’s Big Dipper was built in 1923 and operates with two trains, each containing three four-bench cars.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19312004-ADNFCR
