Lecturer hit by tree awarded injury compensation

An art lecturer from Tottenham has been awarded GBP 300,000 in injury compensation after he was struck by a falling tree in the grounds of the college where he worked.

The man suffered three fractures to his spine, a fractured skull and has developed a stammer and a twist as a result of the incident in which a diseased copper beech tree knocked him unconscious in January 2007, the Tottenham Journal reports.

He has been forced to retire from his post at Southgate College and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.

Amenity Sports Management, which maintains the grounds of the college, has admitted liability and agreed to pay GBP 300,000 in injury compensation.

It follows news that classroom assistant Yvonne Macklin from Colchester has been awarded what is described as a "substantial" injury compensation sum after she suffered a slipped disc while carrying a heavy box of school lunches.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19484036-ADNFCR
