Injury compensation payout for brain-damaged labourer

A shipyard worker has received a large injury compensation sum after an accident left him with brain damage.

The unnamed worker was struck on the head by falling welding equipment while working for A&P Falmouth in 2004, the Shields Gazette reports.

He was wearing full safety equipment, including a hard hat, at the time the accident happened, but still suffered severe injury which left him with deafness, epilepsy and severe headaches.

Following the accident he successfully pursued an injury compensation claim against his employer.

"He can no longer work. This money will help cover his daily living costs, now that he can no longer earn a wage," the man’s mother told the paper.

The news follows reports that inadequate health and safety measures led to the death of a construction worker on the Isle of Dogs, together with a £135,000 fine for his employer.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19163155-ADNFCR
