Hero fireman launches injury compensation claim

A fireman who tried to rescue a woman from a burning house is pursuing an injury compensation claim of GBP 500,000 from his employers.

Ian Tape suffered severe 35 per cent burns during the fire in Waterthorpe, Sheffield in February 2007.

He was forced to spend ten weeks recovering in a specialist burns unit at Sheffield’s Northern General hospital and also takes medication daily for pain relief.

Mr Tape has now launched an injury compensation claim against South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue in which he alleges the service failed to provide him with properly working radios.

Additionally he claims the crew were wrongly ordered to spray the fire with water while he was inside, intensifying the heat.

It follows news that a farmer has launched a GBP 20,000 claim for damages caused to his property in Gwynedd by a fire which broke out on land close to the tracks of a steam train.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19196195-ADNFCR
