GBP 270k compensation for Heathrow fall

A construction worker who incredibly survived a 120ft fall has been awarded a GBP 270,000 injury compensation sum.

Parminder Singh and another worker were carrying out work on the roof of Heathrow’s Terminal 5 when a girder that was supporting them snapped, the London Evening Standard reports.

He suffered serious injuries to his back, leg and head, while fellow worker Matthew Gilbert died.

Mr Singh’s legal battle for injury compensation was complicated when the Home Office refused him re-entry into the UK because his visa had elapsed while he recovered in India.

He told the paper: "I can’t remember much about the fall but I suffered nightmares for months.

"It was truly a miracle I survived."

Figures from the Health and Safety Executive show that 58 people died from a fall from height from 2007 to 2008, making it the most common type of accident to cause fatal injuries.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19194018-ADNFCR
