GBP 200k injury compensation for disabled paramedic

A former paramedic who was left permanently disabled by a fall while he tried to save a patient’s life has been awarded GBP 200,000 in injury compensation.

Michael Kirkham, 58, was responding to a cardiac arrest call when he snagged a heavy bag on a door handle, causing him to fall heavily to the floor.

He suffered a chronic shoulder injury which later developed into agonising back and neck pain, leaving him unable to use his left arm or walk short distances.

The injury forced him to take early retirement and he was reliant on a wheelchair for mobility for many years.

Mr Kirkham has now received a GBP 200,000 injury compensation from the West Midlands Ambulance Trust, which has also changed the bags carried by its paramedics to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

It follows news that an art lecturer seriously hurt by a falling tree on the grounds of the campus where he worked has secured GBP 300,000 in injury compensation.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19486073-ADNFCR
