GBP 2,000 compensation bill for drunken attack

A Cumbrian man has been hit with a GBP 2,000 injury compensation bill after violently assaulting two men during a drunken night out.

Randle Bateman, a scaffolder, followed the men outside a pub in Workington and attacked one of them with a brick after an evening of heavy drinking, the News and Star reports.

Mr Bateman was given a 12-month suspended sentence on top of a GBP 1,500 compensation bill to the first man he assaulted and a GBP 500 bill to the second man.

He must also pay court costs of GBP 500 and observe a curfew with an electronic tag between the hours of 19:00 and 06:00 BST for the next five months.

It follows reports in the Cambridge News that two men who launched an attack on a man outside a Cambridge nightclub have each been ordered to pay GBP 250 in injury compensation to their victim.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19186640-ADNFCR
