GBP 10k compensation for factory worker who trapped arm

A teenager is in line to receive a GBP 10,000 injury compensation sum from a Grimsby factory.

Luke Oxton, who was 19 at the time, had to be freed by firefighters after getting his arm trapped in machinery at the Coldwater factory for over an hour, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.

Grimsby magistrates were told that Icelandic Group UK, which operates the factory, has failed to keep a guard on a vent in working order, which led to the accident.

Mr Oxton has been unable to return to work since the incident in October 2007.

Icelandic group has since issued a statement apologising for his injuries, saying: "We have learned lessons from this incident and implemented a major training programme for all employees and management to recognised national standards."

Factory owners were recently reminded by the Health and Safety Executive to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent work injury, following the tragic case of a worker who was crushed to death at a materials company in London.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19165877-ADNFCR
