A construction company and building owner have been fined a total of GBP 15,000 after a builder fell from a factory roof and injured his spine in an accident at work.
Danny Langdon, 63, of Sudbury, Suffolk, fell seven metres on Christmas Eve 2008 and has not returned to work since.
He was working for Hartog Hutton Ltd when he fell through a roof light at Fluorocarbon Company Ltd’s factory in Caxton Hill, Hertford.
Mr Langdon hit a gantry crane as he fell and landed on machinery below, suffering fractured vertebrae.
Hartog Hutton Ltd, of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, was fined £10,000 at St Albans Crown Court and ordered to pay £7,076 in costs.
Fluorocarbon Company Ltd was fined £5,000 with £5,195 in costs.
Earlier this week, the Health and Safety Executive revealed that a third of construction companies in Derbyshire are risking being at the centre of work injury compensation claims as they have failed recent safety inspections.
