Disabled boy wins injury compensation payout

A hospital in Merseyside has agreed to pay a substantial sum in injury compensation to a nine-year-old boy left disabled by complications during his birth.

Stephen Loraine needs round-the-clock care after doctors at Wirral’s Arrowe Park hospital sent his mother home after a scan in August 2000, but failed to look at the records of her previous births.

The records would have revealed a dangerous fibroid in her womb, which caused her to suffer a bleed at home before being rushed to hospital for the delivery, at which time her child was starved of oxygen for more than 45 minutes.

Stephen was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and impaired vision and the hospital has now given an undisclosed sum in injury compensation to his family.

It follows news that a 13-year-old Buckinghamshire girl left disabled by a botched birth is to be awarded GBP 5.6 million.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19593400-ADNFCR
