A disabled boy has received injury compensation for a fall that saw him severely fracture his leg.
Chris Fretwell, of Glencoe Road in Norfolk Park, was staying at Mulberry Lodge in Handsworth when he fell slipped on food and drink that had been spilt on the floor, the Star reports.
Staff at the home failed to notice that the ten-year-old had broken his leg until the following day.
"Chris had been making great progress and was beginning to be able to walk by himself, but his injuries have been a massive setback and it is like starting again from square one," said Chris’ father Robert.
At Sheffield County Court, district judge Paul Mort ordered Sheffield Council, which owns the care home, to pay a five-figure settlement to Chris’ family.
This injury compensation will cover the cost of the boy’s recovery and the care he has required since the accident.
Last month, Dranson Ltd was issued with a fine of GBP 8,000 over an accident at work that saw a teenage employee suffer a broken leg.
