A delivery driver who hurt his back in a work injury and was forced to take nearly a year off work has received GBP 6,000 in injury compensation.
The unnamed 43-year-old was pushing a stack of savoury pastries to his van when it was jolted by rough edges on the concrete floor, causing him to seriously jar his back.
Lawyers acting on his behalf said that he should have been provided with a wheeled trolley, allowing the baskets of produce to be moved more easily.
The driver, who is a member of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union, said: "Hurting my back meant I had to take almost a year off work resulting in reduced pay."
He added: "The compensation makes up for the time I lost from work."
Last year, a member of the same union receive GBP 17,500 in injury compensation after falling from an unsafe ladder at work.
