Burnley-based CMA Tools Ltd has been fined GBP 1,000 after one of its employees lost a finger in an accident at work.
A piece of emery cloth that Paul Whittaker, 30, was using to reduce the size of a metal component became trapped in the rotating mechanism of a metalworking lathe, pulling in his right hand.
Mr Whittaker’s glove also got caught, pulling his hand further into the machinery.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Imran Siddiqui said: "Paul Whittaker has been unable to return to work and his injury has significantly affected his ability to grip and lift with his right hand."
He went on to say that injuries like this, which can result in injury compensation claims of thousands of pounds, are "all too common".
Last month, an employee of European Metal Recycling Ltd also got his hand trapped and injured in a piece of machinery at work, resulting in the firm being fined GBP 8,000.
