Cab crash ‘may have been caused by police car’

A collision involving a police car in Hove could potentially lead to a car accident compensation claim.

The crash, in which a female taxi passenger suffered minor injuries, led to an ambulance being called, The Argus reports.

Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act have revealed that cars belonging to Sussex Police are involved in around 1,000 crashes every year – more than two a day.

Some 17 car accident compensation claims have been launched against the police force in the past year, leading to compensation and legal costs totalling GBP 430,000.

The paper also reports that officers have been spotted forcing other traffic to swerve and go the wrong way down one-way streets, as well as driving while eating or drinking.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation is due to be held into the death of a 29-year-old woman earlier this month, which it is thought may have been caused by an unmarked Metropolitan Police car.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19189466-ADNFCR
