Brain-damaged woman to receive GBP 3 million in injury compensation

A 37-year-old woman who has needed constant care since her birth has been awarded an injury compensation package of around GBP 3 million.

Helen Walker’s parents have supported her throughout her life since her very protracted delivery at Birmingham Women’s Hospital in 1972, the London Evening Standard reports, although it was only ten years ago that they began their claim.

The family’s solicitor, Tom Cook, told the paper that Ms Walker’s parents may not have realised that they could claim injury compensation for their daughter’s condition.

"The commonly publicised time limit for bringing any sort of injury claim in the UK is three years, but where the injured party was a child who as a result of their injury does not have mental capacity then there is no time limit," he added.

It follows news that former boy band singer Owen Griffin is to receive GBP 3 million in injury compensation after a car crash in 2004 left him with brain damage.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19486070-ADNFCR
