Blind schoolgirl awarded GBP 1.5 million in injury compensation

A schoolgirl left blind as a result of a hospital blunder has been awarded GBP 1.5 million in injury compensation from the High Court.

Tatum Rock, now 16, was taken to King George hospital in 1999 after falling over unexpectedly, where an X-ray scan of her brain was taken.

However, the radiologist failed to spot the prominent signs of the benign tumour that was growing in her brain and had to be removed by emergency surgery four months later, as a result of which she lost her sight.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust has agreed to pay Tatum GBP 1.5 million in injury compensation.

She is currently studying at the Royal National Institute of Blind People school in Worcester and plans to go to university.

In other news, the parents of a baby who tragically died as a result of delays at the University Hospital of Wales recently received GBP 160,000 in compensation.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19443316-ADNFCR
