Woman wins compensation claim over road injury

14/07/2010

A woman has won a compensation claim after she was injured in a road accident.

Pervin Yetkin, from Dalston, was hit by a taxi on February 13th 2004 after stepping onto Stratford High Street in east London on her way to bingo.

She claimed that her view of oncoming traffic was obstructed by untrimmed bushes on the road's central reservation.

Mrs Yetkin's compensation claim was rejected at first, but the Court of Appeal ruled that, despite her own negligence, the local highway authority still owed her a duty of care by keeping the bushes in a better condition.

The highway authority, Newham Council, was told to compensate Mrs Yetkin for 25 per cent of the damage she suffered, which included a fractured neck and internal injuries.

Earlier this month, thisiscornwall.co.uk reported that a trainee bricklayer had won over GBP 1 million in car accident compensation following a crash that occurred in Cornwall seven years ago.
