Woman receives £ 28k after airport fall
21/11/2011A Northamptonshire woman, who was forced to abandon her holiday after suffering a fall at Birmingham International Airport, has been awarded GBP 28,000 after a successful personal injury claim.
Sheila Gilling fell down a staircase as she prepared to board a flight to Lanzarote and suffered a dislocated shoulder and a torn hamstring.
Her injuries prevented her from returning to work for nine months.
According to the Northampton Chronicle, the temporary staircase between the boarding gate and the plane had not been connected correctly and were wet due to a leak in the roof.
A spokesperson from Mrs Gilling's legal team said that it was only right she was compensated, not only for her pain and suffering but also for loss of earnings and the holiday which had to be abandoned.
The Plymouth Herald recently reported that a man who suffered serious head injuries when he fell down some hotel steps has launched a personal compensation claim.
