Woman hit by police car faces long injury compensation battle
27/10/2011A woman who suffered severe injuries when she was hit by a police car is expected to face a long drawn-out battle for compensation through her injury claim.
According to the BBC, Rebecca Ann Smith suffered serious injuries which left her with permanent brain damage when she was struck by the car in 2005.
She sought personal injury compensation from the police and a decision on liability was made at Nottingham County Court in January of this year, which found Ms Smith 75 per cent responsible for the car accident.
However, it is being reported that a challenge of this original decision has been made at the Court of Appeal this week.
The police car was responding to an emergency and travelling at speed when the incident occurred.
It is reported that a compensation settlement could run into the millions of pounds if the decision goes in Ms Smith's favour, due to the severity of her injuries.
