Wedding guests seek compensation after salmonella outbreak

06/09/2010

Guests of a wedding blighted by an outbreak of salmonella have been speaking to injuries solicitors to make a compensation claim against the event's caterer.

Four guests were taken to hospital following the wedding reception and one of them, Rene Kwartz, 82, did not survive.

At least 14 guests are taking legal action against the people who provided the food for the reception, which was held in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Norma Harris, the bride's mother, was one of the guests that was taken ill on August 8th after eating from the buffet of canapes, a salmon starter, chicken soup, potatoes, vegetables, chocolate pudding and ice cream.

"The four that were in hospital were very ill indeed. We are absolutely devastated. My daughter doesn't want to see her wedding photographs. We are in bits," she said.

According to the Health Protection Agency, more than 2,500 different strains of salmonella have been identified.
