Warehouse worker wins GBP 12k compensation claim

24/08/2010

A warehouse worker has been awarded GBP 12,000 by his former employer Argos Direct.

Tony Greatorex claimed that the company was responsible for the considerable damage that was caused to his hearing while he was at work, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Mr Greatorex will now have to wear hearing aids for the rest of his life as a result of the noise-induced damage he sustained.

The 46-year-old explained that he was faced with constant noise while he was at work, including that from a battery-operated pump truck and large metal carrying cages.

"I went to my GP and subsequent tests have confirmed I am suffering from tinnitus, which is very difficult to live with," he told the newspaper.

According to the Health and Safety Executive, many people are at risk from suffering noise-related hearing loss at work, including those who use noisy powered tools or machinery for over half an hour a day.
