Shoulder injury results in compensation

07/04/2009

A Halesowen man hurt while working in the car manufacturing industry has been awarded a £3,500 injury compensation payout from his employers.

David Billingham was employed as a caster making iron moulds in 2006 when a trolley he was pushing collided with a weight remover and caused a shoulder injury, the Halesowen News reports.

The accident required him to spend a week in physiotherapy and he has been unable to lift heavy objects since.

He also said the danger associated with the machine was well-known, but the firm had failed to take any action over it.

"I was so frustrated I decided that the only way to get the equipment fixed was to take legal action," he told the paper.

However, shortly after he began his compensation claim his employer went into administration, putting his claim in jeopardy.

But fortunately for Mr Billingham the firm's insurers settled with him.

Companies running factory environments were recently reminded to ensure they have adequate safeguards in place to prevent work injuries, after a Telford firm was prosecuted when a worker suffered severe arm damage in a potato processor.ADNFCR-2070-ID-19112042-ADNFCR
