Plumber 'put customers at risk of injury'

13/09/2010

A plumber who put his customers in danger of gas exposure and himself at risk of subsequent injury compensation claims has been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Frank Davey, of Breckland Road in New Costessey, Norfolk, carried out illegal work on gas boilers between April 1st and November 30th 2009, despite the fact that he was not registered with the Gas Safe Register.

HSE inspector Anthony Brookes, explained that it is illegal for an unregistered person to carry out work on a gas appliance.

"When unqualified workers try to bypass the law in this way they are not only putting themselves at risk of prosecution and a large fine, they are also putting their customers' lives at risk," he added.

Last month, building company Rushi Construction (UK) Limited and one of its directors were fined a total of GBP 15,000 after they carried out gas fitting work despite not being on the Gas Safe Register.
