Pensioner makes compensation claim after slip on grass cuttings

18/08/2010

A pensioner has made a compensation claim against Barnsley Council after injuring himself by slipping on wet grass cuttings left on a public footpath.

Clary Day told the Star that the council's workers had failed to sweep up the grass after carrying out some routine work.

The 81-year-old was on his daily morning walk when he fell on the path in 2008.

"I'd got about 50 yards down the path when my foot just slipped right from under me. It all happened so quickly. I just went straight down and landed on my arm and shoulder," Mr Day told the newspaper.

He went on to say that he was unable to lift his left arm for several months and he still experiences pain now, two years on.

Earlier this month, the Manchester Evening News reported that Manchester City Council paid out more than GBP 4 million in compensation claims over the past two years.
