New system for small car accident claims goes before parliament
09/03/2010People seeking injury compensation for road traffic accidents have been promised a quicker, simpler system for making claims under a new fast-track process which was discussed in parliament yesterday (March 8th).
The scheme introduces fixed stages and costs, with set deadlines for both claimants' and defenders' solicitors and will apply to car accident injury claims valued between GBP 1,000 and GBP 10,000.
Justice minister Bridget Prentice said the initiative will allow solicitors to communicate more effectively through online technology and encourages earlier notification of claims and a quicker process for settlements.
"Government and the industries involved have worked closely together to establish a scheme within which people can be confident that the professionals they are dealing with are resolving their conflicts as quickly, simply and cheaply possible," she commented.
The news follows reports in the Wanstead & Woodford Guardian that a cyclist in Woodford Green who suffered a near-fatal car accident three years ago has launched a legal battle for injury compensation.
