New streamlined injury compensation process introduced

Compensation claims for whiplash injury or other grievances sustained in car accidents can now be processed and awarded much more quickly.

The Association for British Insurers (ABI) has been campaigning for some time for a simpler, faster and more cost-effective compensation system and, as of today (April 30th), one has been brought into force.

Claims being made after today for car accident compensation will now take no more than nine months to settle, as opposed to two years, which is currently the standard time frame.

Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance and health, said: "These changes will not only mean quicker compensation for many, but will also reduce the level of legal costs that all motorists ultimately end up paying for through their motor premiums."

One person who could have benefitted from this new, quicker process is Jennifer Blyth, from Kirkcaldy in Fife, who had to wait ten years to be compensated for injuries she sustained in a road accident in August 2000, the Courier reported earlier this month.
