Mechanic awarded compensation for hand injury
01/04/2009Scotland Yard has been forced to pay a £400,000 compensation claim to a Kent mechanic who injured himself while servicing one of its vehicles.
Alexander Darg was working on a police car when he cut his index and middle fingers on a knife that was stuck down the side of a driver's seat.
He reports feeling crippling pains all over his body in the seven years since the incident, and has since been diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome.
Additionally, Mr Darg suffered anxiety after he was required to take an HIV test.
Presiding judge Sir Robert Nelson awarded Mr Darg £400,000 in compensation, including a sum of £32,500 for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment of life, after agreeing that he had suffered a genuine disability which prevented him from returning to work.
It is the second big compensation payout this week after Newsquest reported that a woman who suffered a stroke following a car crash was awarded a seven-figure sum.
