Man wins GBP 1.45m in car accident compensation

18/05/2010

A man who was paralysed in an incident on the roads has been awarded GBP 1.45 million in car accident compensation.

High Court judge Mr Justice Eady ruled yesterday (May 17th) that insurers should pay Keith Barker-Platt, 59, of Royston Road in Penge, the seven-figure sum, the Bromley Times reports.

It was five years ago that Mr Platt was knocked off his moped by a car on Well Hall Road in Eltham.

He sustained brain damage which has resulted in him suffering from physical and cognitive problems and made him unable to work and provide for his family.

Mr Platt has had to rely on his wife and sons for care and, for this reason, they will also receive compensation payments from insurers.

Earlier this week it was reported that David Tolley, who was left paralysed after being hit by two vehicles while he was trying to help a woman stranded on a motorway, had been successful in his injury compensation claim.

Insurers had tried to claim that the accident was partly his fault and that he should sacrifice some of his car accident compensation.
