Man taken to hospital with suspected whiplash injury
14/07/2011A 20-year-old driver and a young female passenger were taken to hospital suffering from suspected whiplash injuries following a car crash on Shields Road, Newcastle.
The man's Ford Focus collided with a Ford Fiesta driven by a man in his 60s at 10:00 BST this morning (July 14th), closing the road for two hours.
Watch manager Trevor Smith, of Hebburn fire station, who attended the incident, told the Shields Gazette that the cutting equipment was not needed to free any of the occupants.
"However, the younger driver and a girl, aged about four or five, were taken to hospital to check for any potential neck injuries," he added.
The Ford Focus driven by the 20-year-old careered into a lamp-post following the collision, which the fire crew removed for the safety of pedestrians.
Mr Smith noted: "If the car had not struck the lamp-post – and taken the impact – it could have wiped out anyone who had been on the pavement at the time."
A woman sustained a whiplash injury and a man was severely injured in a car accident in Keswick, Cumbria, recently.
