Man hit by motorbike awarded GBP 5.6m in compensation

14/07/2010

A man who was severely injured when he was hit by a motorbike has been awarded GBP 5.6 million in compensation.

Brian Agard, 44, was hit by the bike as he crossed Lees Road in Oldham back in 2003, the Manchester Evening News reports.

He sustained brain damage, lost his sight and is now unable to walk as he had to have his left leg amputated below the knee.

The motorcyclist's insurers have agreed a final settlement for damages that will ensure Mr Agard gets the 24-hour care he needs.

Maxine Agard, his wife, told the newspaper that the settlement had, at last, given her and her husband peace of mind.

"The payments mean Brian can be cared for in the best possible way with his family around him," she said.

Back in May, a biker was killed when he hit a car after swerving to avoid a skateboarder.

His wife, Susan Honey, has made a compensation claim against the skateboarder for GBP 300,000.
