Man fined over personal injury risk

14/06/2011

A man has been fined after he was found to be putting himself at risk of an accident at work and an old woman at risk of a personal injury.

David Jonathon Jackson, of Winward Way, Smiths Wood, was not registered with the Council for Registered Gas Installers (Corgi) when he carried out work in a pensioner's lounge and kitchen.

Between March 1st and April 30th 2008, he installed a gas fire and water heater in the property, claiming to be Corgi-registered.

Health and Safety Executive inspector Peter Snelgrove said: "Working with gas appliances is difficult, specialised and potentially very dangerous.

"Poorly-installed gas work can cause explosions or carbon monoxide poisoning, which can be fatal and can also cause serious long-term health problems."

Mr Jackson was fined GBP 400 and ordered to pay costs of GBP 500.

UK Oil and Gas Ltd was recently fined after carrying out illegal gas work on a number of properties across Lincolnshire, which could have resulted in accidents at work or personal injuries.
