Injured spectators set to launch injury claims

21/11/2011

Three spectators who were injured while watching an illegal road race are set to launch an injury claim for compensation.

The incident happened in January as a BMW M3 driven by Jia Guo, and Pontiac driven by Micheal Palumbo raced along a 200 metre stretch of road in the Balgan Energy Park.

During the race the BMW veered towards the kerb and hit a group of spectators, with those involved suffering serious injuries.

Spectator Sian Pimm suffered leg and face injuries that have left her scarred and fellow spectators Hugh Bevan and Marcus Bounds suffered a back injury and a broken leg respectively.

Both drivers were recently at Swansea Crown Court in regard to the incident, with Mr Guo given a 32-week suspended jail sentence and Mr Palumbo ordered to undertake 22 hours of community service.

The judge in the case said the spectators would have "cast iron" cases if they were looking to seek personal injury compensation.
