Great grandmother wins compensation after fall

16/11/2011

A great grandmother who fell through a shop floor has received compensation after a successful injury claim.

Ellen Williams, 86, was seriously injured in the accident in September 2010.

She was shopping in the Fruitful fruit and vegetable shop in Byker, Newcastle, when she fell through the floorboards and landed on the cellar floor ten feet below.

Mrs Williams shattered her heel in the incident, an injury that has left her unable to walk without support, and was trapped in the cellar for two hours while the emergency services worked to free her.

The Chronicle is reporting that she has now received a four-figure compensation payment after making an injury claim against the shop.

It is claimed that water leaking from a fridge had made the floor weak, which caused it to collapse underneath Mrs Williams.

The Plymouth Herald recently reported that a man who suffered serious head injuries when he fell down some hotel steps has launched a personal compensation claim.
