Five injured after police chase
02/12/2011Five people were hurt when a high-speed police chase ended in a four-car smash, with a number of people suffering whiplash injuries.
The police were pursuing a suspected stolen Daihatsu Charade through Leigh town centre when the police car collided with two Ford Kas and a Citroen C5.
Four people were cut free from the Ford Kas, with one male passenger suffering a dislocated shoulder and leg injuries.
Two drivers and a second passenger were treated for whiplash injuries and shock at a nearby hospital.
The police driver, who has now been suspended from driving duties, suffered a broken nose and leg injuries and was treated at Salford Hospital.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman told the Manchester Evening News: "When the police car was turning this corner, it was in a collision which involved another three cars; two Ford Kas and a Citroen C5."
The Greater Manchester Police Professional Standards Board is currently considering whether to refer the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
