Father 'ignored' by buggy manufacturer
12/11/2009The father of a two-year-old girl is angry after a buggy manufacturer failed to improve its safety credentials, even after part of his child's finger was cut off in a case which led him to launch an injury compensation claim.
Maclaren has ignored Ian Harmer's demands to make safety improvements to the Triumph Stroller buggy after his daughter Olivia's finger was trapped in a hinge, severing the top from it, the Daily Mail reports.
"She required treatment in two hospitals and then an operation under general anaesthetic to have the end of her little finger on her right hand terminated," he told the paper.
The firm has even put pressure on Mr Harmer and his family to drop their injury compensation claim, despite the fact that this week it issued a million kits to its customers in the US to cover dangerous hinges on its folding buggies.
In related news, a family in the Manchester area recently received a GBP 4.46 million injury compensation payout after bosses at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust admitted clinical negligence regarding their brain damaged son.
