Family of disabled girl make compensation claim
13/08/2010The parents of a girl who was starved of oxygen at birth have made a compensation claim against the NHS.
Harriet Riley was left severely disabled following the complications during her birth in June 2002, the South Wales Argus reports.
Her parents Christopher and Louise Riley believe that the hospital's delays caused Harriet's profound disabilities and so are seeking compensation for their daughter.
The seven-year-old has to be fed through a tube and cannot move or speak on her own, meaning that she will require 24-hour care for the rest of her life.
A claim form submitted to the High Court states that, had Harriet been born an hour earlier, she would not suffer from disabilities, the newspaper reports.
Back in June, six-year-old Jensen Carter was awarded millions in compensation from Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust.
Medics gave the wrong drug to his mother Gina while he was being born and he went on to develop cerebral palsy.
