Car accident compensation - Rugby player undergoes surgery following car crash

05/10/2011

A Jersey Rugby Club player who was taken to hospital following a car accident with suspected broken arms, a fractured leg and whiplash injuries has undergone surgery in a Luton hospital.

James Ellershaw, who signed for the club in June, was involved in a "serious car accident" in his home town of Luton.

Bill Dempsey, chairman of the Jersey Rugby Club, said the news was a "big shock" for the team and the island as a whole as the prop has made such a big impact since his arrival.

"He's someone who had came over to the island a couple of months ago and a guy who always had a smile on his face," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

Mr Ellershaw has undergone surgery on his arms and the multiple fractures of his leg, but Mr Dempsey said it is "still early days" in his recovery process.

Two police officers were recently treated for whiplash injuries after two police cars collided in Nottinghamshire responding to a 999 call.
