£300k pothole compensation for Worcestershire drivers

Worcestershire's motorists have received nearly £300,000 in car accident compensation for damage caused by the county's potholes since 2004.

Many drivers are still waiting to be compensated for repair bills and injury caused by Worcester county council's failure to maintain roads, Worcester News reports.

Car owner Abi Oliver, 21, received a letter from the council saying it would not cover repair bills to her Vauxhall Corsa after it was damaged by a pothole.

"The problem occurred because of the condition of the road and I believe I pay my £120 road tax every year to ensure the roads are kept to a drivable standard," she told the paper.

Worcestershire county council said it was investing more than £20 million in the county's roads, but would not compensate drivers who have failed to check the roads regularly.

Road maintenance campaign group Potholes.co.uk recently criticised the decision of Navestock parish council to leave potholes unfilled, deciding instead to use them as traffic calming measures.
